A-to-Z Looking Back Through the Mirror (A Poem)

Listen, my followers, and you shall hear
'bout the A-to-Z challenge looking back through the mirror
(I admit, 'twould be easier if I had named it
"the reflections post" but the rhyme did demand it.)

They said share pleasures,
And please share your pains
Share with us any setbacks
Reveal any gains

So in order I think
I'll recount what I thought
Of the challenge this year
And from it what I got.

Firstly, for pleasure
I found it quite fun
To post every day
(Except Sundays, but one)

It was quite terrific
To be forced to write
Every day. It was helpful
And fun to do, right?

Also it was thrilling
To see every day
Showing up in my dashboard
Posts from every which way

From Aliens to Astrid
To Artificial Intelligence
All the posts would appear
In alphabetical elegance

As for pains - I admit
It was harder than it would seem
To come up with a post
For my rather broad theme

If I did it again
I would choose something tighter
So, unlike my N post
I wouldn't have to pull an (almost) all-nighter

And I would recommend
That you do choose a theme
It builds anticipation and a reason
For followers to visit again

Did I have any setbacks?
Well, I never lost
Any posts (thank the Lord!)
Nor had any great cost

Except time; though I did
Lose my sidebar just once
(As I wrote about here)
Otherwise, no hindrance

Lastly, for the gains
As for follower-wise
(Yes, I know that's not a word)
I was very surprised

At the amount that I gained
I feel honored, for when it was done
I'd started with sixteen
And ended with seventy-one

My page views increased
And my comments did too
For which occurrence, of course,
I have to thank you!

Now for blogs that I found -
Well, I found quite a lot
Quite a few which I followed
(I know, some I did not)

A few that impressed me:
MFBStrange Pegs, Just Following a Dream,
These all had great themes

As for the others -
Too many to name here
You can go to my profile
And see the full list (if you dare)

So the question remains:
Would I do it again?
It was fun, no mistake,
And I feel that I gained.

But it's a little too early
To think of that presently
I'll rest up a bit
And let you know by next February.

In other news:
My mom blogged about a time-capsule-ish letter I wrote recently and which we stuck in the floorboards of my room (which we're redesigning). To figure out why we put it in the floorboards, read the post!

And... my nerdy Canadian online friend Micah has started a blog. She currently only has three followers, but her posts are always amusing. Go check it out ----> Snippets and Slices and Scenes

What did you think of the A-to-Z challenge? If you participated, what was your favorite part? Did you have a favorite blog (leave me a link!)? If you just read along, what did you like or dislike about reading blogs that entered the challenge?
Let me know by commenting!

    1. Glad you liked it! I have to admit, the reason it's a poem was because I was bored and wanted to write an easy and interesting post. :)

  7. Hi Lauren! Thanks for dropping by my place today and commenting. I loved your poem and am very impressed. I'm not much of a poet myself, though I did post one on Dr. Suess's birthday. I dropped by Micah's and followed, as I did here. Hope to see you around!

Glad you liked the poem. I felt like my creative muscles needed a little stretching after the challenge, which was like a creativity marathon!

    1. T stands for... thank you Robyn! Or maybe "Th" stands for thank you - how about a phonetic alphabet challenge? ;)

  9. LAUREN! This is AWESOME! I did the challenge, too, but haven't had the energy to go back and re-cap. I should, I know, but I think I'd have to use a bunch of my obsolete words and I'm a bit burned out by them. Maybe I'll be like a grand duchess and show up fashionably late... you HAVE inspired me with this!

Glad you found me and glad my story of hope blessed you. Thanks for the plug in your side-bar, too! Woo-hoo!

  11. Ah! I LOVE your recap! You clever girl, you! So very fabulous.

This might sound lame, but one of my favorite things on my blog about it, was seeing the a-z build in my sidebar where it shows my recent posts. :)

I loved seeing the sidebar as well. Twenty six perfectly alphabetized posts!

  12. Congrats on finishing the A to Z. It's a test of endurance for writers who blog. (just how much do we have to say?)

Dropping by via the Reflections list, a Poem is always a lovely gift. Hope you'll stop by my blog if you like photos of Paris.
